Sachin Tendulkar – India has counted on and chanted that name for years. It’s a name that many have used as a mantra, as a source of hope and as a drug to get high on. These two words could once upon a time bring every house down, even if a family member wasn’t a Sachin fan. That’s rare and arguably never to happen again where one name could unite the entire country so much so that when he used to bat the streets would go empty, even the busiest streets of Mumbai!
So many of us may not want to ruin those moments with a movie that distorts any of those cherished memories. It’s like we’re okay with God having faults, we don’t want to hear them. Thankfully, the movie Sachin: A Billion dreams is not a biopic. It’s a documentary that is not only about Sachin but also narrated by him. So, he walks us through his journey with his own words. For those worrying that it might be journalistic or sharp or overtly probing – it is not any of those. Simply put, it’s a film for Sachin’s fans that preaches to the choir. So the creators of the movie have played it safe by making sure they won’t even touch a raw nerve.
Speaking of Sachin A Billion Dreams full movie – its narrative in particular – it is too prodigious, too peerless, too unrivalled. Sachin A Billion Dreams full movie is free of grey areas and conflicts to truly make for a thrilling cinema. When you watch Sachin A Billion Dream, you realise that it’s a movie that pays a tribute to him rather than telling a tale.
Having said that, making a biopic on a protagonist who has been inscribed on the walls of the collective consciousness of India’s people, is a tough thing to do. So, naturally, James Erskine puts Sachin Tendulkar on a pedestal and depicts the events of Sachin’s life and his cricketing career with unnatural admiration.
There are moments in the film which you will love. Like, it’s a joy to get a sneak peek into Tendulkar’s childhood days. The movie also has footages of Sachin in his private spaces and his candid moments with his wife Anjali, his children—Arjun and Sara, his family and friends.
As anticipated, Sachin: A Billion Dreams, starts with echoing hymns of, “Sachin… Sachin…”, (clap clap clap!). This along with a series of montage chronicling Sachin’s flourishes of wins and achievements, sends chills down your spine right at the onset. You will instantly know that the film Sachin: A Billion Dreams will fervently lean on being a tribute, rather than a biopic. But perhaps it’s the ideal way for a film that is made primarily for Sachin Tendulkar’s fans.
If you’re expecting that the movie will pull the curtain on match fixing and Vinod Kambli and the Ferrari storm, then hold your horses. All of these things may spring out of news or some other movie later but not in this one. Anyway, Tendulkar’s feats far outweigh his follies. Like the man, the movie too is a curious blend at various intervals. But it will pull at your heartstrings as you laugh, recall, even weep a bit, and once again stand up and appreciate the sheer devotion and commitment of this man to his game and to his family. And maybe the film may stir you up to chase some dreams of your own.
